Researchers from Africa are cordially invited to join the African Research Workshop on 01 September 2019 in Innsbruck and present their scientific findings!
During the next annual congress of the GA, the African Research Network will organize a workshop to promote natural products research conducted in Africa. The workshop will take place as a pre-congress workshop of the GA-conference on Sunday, 01 September 2019 in Innsbruck.
As an interaction platform for researchers from all over the world, the annual congress of the GA offers an ideal setting for an Africa-related networking event. Aim of the African Research Workshop 2019 is to present and discuss natural products related research and to stimulate the dialogue between African scientists.
An impulse lecture will be held at the beginning of the workshop by Prof. Dr. Sami Khalid: “Revisiting African traditional medicine within the 21st century context - past, present and future perspectives”.
Prof. Sami Khalid is currently the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Science & Technology and former Head of the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Khartoum. He is a recognized expert in the fields of medicinal plant research and African ethnopharmacology with longstanding expertise in natural products chemistry and neglected tropical diseases (in vitro/ in vivo screening and clinical studies). Prof. Khalid holds various involvements in international scientific organizations like the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the Natural Products Research Network for Central and Eastern Africa (NAPRECA), the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Italy, and the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden.
General information
All interested researchers are cordially invited to join the workshop. The workshop itself is free of charge, however prior registration via the registration portal is mandatory.
Short lecture session
During the workshop a dedicated short lecture session will provide an overview about natural products research conducted in Africa. If you wish to present your research in an interactive and cooperative atmosphere, submit your abstract for a short lecture contribution during the workshop until May 31st, 2019! Lively discussions and connecting ideas for potential collaborations after each lecture are highly encouraged.
